Q. What is Fishy? A. Fishy is our weekly program for 6th-8th grade students. It meets Wednesday nights at First Presbyterian Church. Fishy's purpose is to present students with practical issues of faith in Christ in an exciting, relational environment. We do this by engaging students in games, teachings, and small groups. Every student is part of a small group led by a leader who helps the group grow in faith, share, have fun, and hang out outside of Wednesday nights. All middle schoolers are welcome at Fishy regardless of religious backgrounds.
Q. What happens at FISHY? A. Fishy is a crazy weekly event where many different things happen each Wednesday! We play games, do skits and walk-ons, sing songs, there is usually some kind of nightly talk, and then we break off into small groups at the end of the night.
Q. What is The Pebble? A. The Pebble is a Sunday morning program for middle school students. We meet Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30. It is a more in-depth teaching than at Fishy. This semester we are learning about different characters in the Bible.
Q. Where do the volunteer leaders come from? A. They're mostly CU students here in Boulder. We do background checks on all our volunteer and paid staff, making sure that only the best possible leaders are hanging out with your kids. We meet with them on a regular basis to keep up with their lives and check up on their small groups!
Q. Where do we drop our kids off for FISHY on Wednesday night? A. All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be dropped off at the east entrance to First Pres on 16th Street between Canyon and Walnut.
Q. How do we decide who is in which small group? A. We group them first by gender, then by grade, school (depending on the number of kids attending from each school) and friends that they have. It can be a difficult process, but we like them to be comfortable where they are and the group they're in.
Q. Who and what are CHIEF PARENTS? A. Chief parents are volunteer parents assigned to each small group. These All-Stars help small groups out with things like weekend hangouts, organizing Fishy-Comes-Home, as well as being a go between for leaders and other parents of kids in the small group. They help the Fishy world keep spinning!!
Q. Is there anything for my Elementary School and High School kids to do during FISHY? A. Definitely! First Pres has programs for both age groups during the same time as Fishy. Base Camp(which meets in the Children's Wing of the church) is for the Elementary kids and Club (in the Annex across from the church) is for the High Schoolers.
Q. Do you have to pay to go to FISHY? A. You DO NOT have to pay to go to Fishy, we just want your kids to come and hang out! Camps cost money, but if financial problems arise there are scholarships available.
